Meet the Builders
Vanessa and Mike Shadix met in 1989 at Dancemakers. Mike was taking Country & Western lessons and Vanessa was taking Ball Room Dance. Mike noticed Vanessa and soon took Ball Room Dance lessons, too. They were married in 1992. Vanessa is a graduate of LSU and in addition to home building, works for Old Republic Title as a Marketing Representative. Vanessa has constructed approximately 100 homes and was elected by her peers in the Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association as Home Builder of the Year in 1998. She was elected Woman of the Year for the Oklahoma State Home Builders Association in 1999 and was Associate of the Year twice at COHBA. She was elected as the National Association Of Home Builders 2011 Member Of The Year for Professional Women In Building. Vanessa has always been involved on many committees and advisory boards such as Board of Directors for Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association, Home & Garden Expo Committee, Christmas In April, Habitat for Humanity, The Children's Center in Bethany, Professional Mortgage Women and more.
Mike was an assistant golf professional out of college before becoming a 25% partner in a home building company. After a few years, Mike became a 50% partner and went on to start his own company in 1989. He was elected Home Builder of the Year for the Metro Area in 1993 and was President of the 1000 member Central Oklahoma Home Builders Association in 1997. Mike has served on and chaired numerous committees and advisory boards. Mike has an excellent reputation in home design, construction and warranty.
In various Parade of Homes competitions through the years, Vanessa and Mike have won awards for Most Innovative Design, Best of Show, Runner-Up Best of Show, Best Kitchen, Best Master Bedroom, Best Master Bath, Best Landscaping and Best Décor. On occasion, they enjoy researching and then building a different style, like Art Deco, Mediterranean, Country French, Contemporary, etc.
There are few experiences greater in life than owning a new home. Together, Vanessa and Mike have constructed over 800 new homes of all size and price including a couple of 6000+ sq footers. Mike says, “Proposed clients must be reasonable in their expectations of a new home, especially as it relates to their budget. A builder writes approximately 200 checks while constructing a home and if each area costs just $200 more than projected, then there is $40,000 more total cost to consider. There are about 1,000 people involved in the construction on each new home, so there are plenty of challenges. Mike adds, “We ask our families to set their ultimate expectations of us at around 90% of their dream, so that leaves us room to be successful. We try to under promise and over deliver. Our team has the talent and ability to build very expensive homes, but we enjoy most the excitement shared by providing an excellent value.”
